Layton is a city located in Davis County, Utah, United States. It is part of the Ogden–Clearfield, Utah Metropolitan Statistical Area. Layton has a growing population of approximately 73,700 and is the largest city in Davis County, and the 9th largest in Utah. The city is named after Christopher Layton, a Mormon colonizer and leader. Layton has direct access to Salt Lake City, Ogden, Salt Lake International Airport, Antelope Island, and the FrontRunner Station. Layton City is a consistent leader in economic development for the region with immediate adjacency to Hill Air Force Base, a large hospitality district (1,000+ hotel beds) and conference center, the Layton Hills Mall, multiple nationally recognized retail and food chains, the East Gate Business Park, and the Weber State University-Davis campus. In 2014, Layton contributed $1.34 billion 〔http://www.tax.utah.gov/econstats/sales/yearly〕 worth of retail sales activity, the 2nd largest market north of Salt Lake City and 7th in Utah. ==History==
